Bass Connections in Race & Society theme, led by the Social Science Research Institute, supports interdisciplinary teams of faculty, students, and community partners in exploring race-related issues and developing solutions that advance racial equity. Race shapes nearly every aspect of our lives, from where we live and learn to how we work and play, and while research confirms that race has no biological basis, its social and structural impacts are profound. Deep inequities in our society reflect historical and ongoing racism embedded in our institutions, norms, and policies. Projects are encouraged to examine how race intersects with other dimensions of society and lived experience, including the environment, health, education, policy, economy, gender and sexuality, art, history, religion, STEM, and community life.
