Congratulations to Tanya Exum-Coston from the SSRI Grants team who, much like the Tar Heels, pulled out a win against stiff competition during the NCAA Tournament. It was a fight to the end for both, with the Tar Heels battling it out with fellow No. 1 seed Gonzaga in the last seconds of the game.
For Exum-Coston, the win propelled her ahead of five other staff members who she won with a total of 1,290 points. A popular choice both last year and this year, this Carolina win meant redemption for a team that lost to Villanova in a 3-point buzzer beater last year.
Bracket fees from the 2017 March Madness competition went to the Triangle branch of Girls on the Run, a non-profit organization that inspires girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running.
Exum-Coston’s bracket finished in the top 2% nationally.
