Explore 2026–2027 Bass Connections Project Teams

Duke students from all schools and levels are invited to explore the new Bass Connections project teams for the 2026–2027 academic year. Applications are due February 9, 2026, at 5 p.m. EST.

About the Project Teams
Bass Connections project teams unite faculty, postdocs, graduate students and undergraduates in interdisciplinary research teams addressing complex societal challenges. Teams span six thematic areas and frequently collaborate with partners beyond Duke, including companies, nonprofits, universities, school systems, hospitals and government agencies.

Most teams run for two semesters, with some offering a summer component. Students may earn academic credit, be eligible for summer funding and apply to up to three project teams. The full list of teams is searchable by theme, focus area and special opportunities, and each project page includes a detailed description, expected outcomes, student roles, timeline and team leaders.

Eligibility
All current Duke undergraduate and graduate/professional students who will be enrolled during the 2026–2027 academic year are eligible to apply.
DKU students may apply if they will study at Duke for at least one semester during 2026–2027 or if the project team is co-led by a DKU faculty member.

Attend the Bass Connections Fair
Students of all levels are encouraged to attend the Bass Connections Fair on Thursday, January 22, 2026, from 2–4 p.m. in Penn Pavilion. This informal event offers the chance to meet project team leaders and Bass Connections staff, ask questions and learn more about available opportunities.

Before You Apply
Prospective applicants are encouraged to review how project teams work, explore FAQs, learn about the benefits of participation and read student stories about their Bass Connections experiences.

The online application requires basic background information, a resume, contact information for two references (including one faculty member, unless you are a first-year student), and short-answer responses about prior teamwork experience and project-specific questions. Applicants can save progress and return to the application at any time. A preview of the application is available online.

Apply by February 9, 2026, at 5 p.m. EST.
